5 -Day Management Development Program on “Export Potential of North Eastern States and Procedures

The North-Eastern states of India have much to gain by leveraging their unique geographic position to their advantage in terms of geo-politics, geo-economics, geo-strategy, and human development standpoints. The sectors such as agriculture, trade and commerce; and horticulture provides employment to a vast segment of inhabitants in rural & semi urban areas and generates substantial revenue for the states. In the globalized world the various departments of NE states is also responsible for enhancing their states export earnings by broadening the export base, increasing market share in targeted high growth foreign markets and sustaining market share in traditional markets. Development of export infrastructures in North Eastern states are crucial in order to increase exports. The north eastern region has the capability to develop as a self-sustaining economic unit of the country while also contributing towards building a new and improved India, in line with the present Government aspirations.

Therefore, the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Kolkata has organised five 5-days residential capacity development programme titled as ‘Export Potential of North Eastern States and Procedures’ at its Kolkata Campus in order to train a total of 90 state government officials of various departments of 6 NE states (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Sikkim) such as Department of Industries, Trade & Commerce, Horticulture, Agriculture, Handicrafts, etc.). All the programmes were conducted under the North Eastern Council, Government of India.

A 5-days residential capacity building program on “Export Potential of North Eastern States and Procedures” was conducted at IIFT Kolkata Campus during August 29-September, 2022 for the in-service government officials of various government departments such as Department of Industries & Commerce, Department of Horticulture and Agriculture from the NE states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Sikkim and Meghalaya. The program was attended by 20 government officials and was sponsored by the North Eastern Council. The training program was inaugurated in the presence of Shri Hage Tari, Secretary, Department of Trade & Commerce, Government of Arunachal Pradesh along with Shri Wanglong Rajkumar, Chairman of Arunachal Pradesh Industrial Development and Financial Corporation Ltd; Dr. K. Rangarajan, Centre-Head, IIFT Kolkata and Dr. Gautam Dutta, Head-CeNEST Division, IIFT.
